In an effort to modernize and revitalize India’s railway infrastructure, the government launched the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme in February 2023. This ambitious scheme aims to redevelop 1,275 railway stations across the country, transforming them into modern, world-class hubs of transportation. The Amrit Bharat (ABS) Scheme is majorly introduced as the time bound minor upgradation scheme which focuses on enhancing the passenger utilities with minimum budgetary or capital allocation, so the upgradation won’t get stuck in the mid-way as seen with most of the infrastructure projects.
The Key Objectives of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme are:
- Enhance passenger amenities: The scheme will provide modern amenities at railway stations, including clean and well-maintained waiting areas, food and beverage outlets, digital signage, and improved lighting.
